We have been fortnunate that Ben, a coach from East Devon Tennis Centre, has been coaching different Year groups in tennis. This half term was the turn of the Year 3 children.

This half term, boys and girls in Year 5 & 6 have had the opportunity to enjoy athletics! During a number of sessions, the children have had the opportunity to improve their running, jumping an throwing skills. As well s competing against each other, they have been setting their own personal bests.

Y4 Tennis Tournament: 24.4.15
On Friday, Brixington entered two teams in the local tennis tournament at East Devon Indoor Tennis Centre. Competing against other children from local schools, they played well, improved after every game and played with a smile. In the end, both our teams (2 boys and 2 girls in each) narrowly missed out on progressing from the group stage.
I know the children all enjoyed the competition and are now looking forward to the school tennis club starting later in the term.

Y5/6 girls football tournament: 15.4.15
Yesterday two teams from Brixington Primary competed in the local girls football tournament. Not only did both teams play well, each member of the team got better after every game!
One Brixington team was unlucky with their draw, as they played against tough teams in the group stage - including the two eventual finalists. They finished 4th of 5 teams.
The other Brixington team won 3 of their first 4 games, scoring 9 goals. They won their group but lost in a tight semi-final. All were a credit to themselves and the school, playing football in the right spirit and with a big smile on their faces.
Congratulations to them all!

Tag Rugby Club visit to Exeter Chiefs
Lucky boys with Jack Nowell! |
Today we had a fabulous day! We arrived at Exeter Chiefs ground and had a training session with Andy, one of the community coaches. It was fun and the children developed their skills and agility.
After lunch, we watched the Chiefs beat top of the league Northampon! At half time, the children loved going on the pitch and waving to the crowd. Then they formed a guard of honour for the players as they came out of the tunnel. The children were also presented with a goody bag and many stayed back after the match getting their new t-shirts / programmes signed by players who were very generous with thier time; including England international Jack Nowell!
All the children had a great day! Many thanks to the Exeter Chiefs. We look forward to the next time when we work together to inspire children to enjoy the game of rugby.
