World Cup 'Beach Rugby Tournament' - 8.7.15

The Rugby World Cup came to Exmouth today and in its honour all the local primary schools took part in a fabulous tag-rugby event on the beach!

The Brixington team included twelve boys and girls from Y4&5 and they competed very well. They lost only one game, to the eventual winners, so narrowly missed out on progressing to the final stages. However, all the children played brilliantly on the sand and will enjoy wearing their 'World Cup' t-shirts, which they can keep as a momento.
What a team!

Cricket sessions at Brixington: July 2015

We are very pleased that Marques, a talented cricketer from Barbados, who is currently working with Exmouth Cricket Club is coaching the children cricket during our PE sessions. He is sharing his passion and knowledge of the game with all the children in the school during the last weeks of term. The children love the fun sessions delivered by Marques in his unique style, with the support of the class teachers.

Thank you for inspiring so many to enjoy the game of cricket Marques!

Sports day @ Brixington: 1st July

On Thursday 1st July, at Brixington we enjoyed an action packed day of sport. The younger children in the school started the sports in the morning and competed in a variety of events including sprints, sack and egg and spoon races.

After a picnic lunch involving children, parents and teachers, the older children took to the track and took part in running, jumping and throwing events. The climax to the sports day were the relay races, followed by the traditional toddlers and parent races.

It was a really fun day for all!

More dance in Year 1 & 2:

Recently, Emily Cane visited our school again to share her expertise in dance with the children and teachers in Years 1 & 2. Continuing the topic of 'Animals', the children had a great time creating fabulous dances. We look forward to Emily working with us again next year.

Y3 & 4 Athletics event @ Exmouth Community College - 26.6.15

Yesterday, a marvellous team of athletes from Y3&4 took aprt in a 'Quadkids' Athletics event at Exmouth Community College. The drizzly rain, which postponed the start and meant it would be too slippery for the sprinting and juming events to take place, did not dampen the spirits of the competitors though! All the children took part in relay, throwing, catching and 400m running events and there were some amazing performances through out the afternoon.

Well done to all who took part; they showed a terrific attitude as well as speed, power and endurance!

Yesterday a dance teacher called Emily Cane, from Premiere Education, came to Brxington to teach Dance in our Arts week. She worked with both Y3 classes as they created a 'Dinosaur dance' as part of their topic on the Jurassic Coast.

Later she helped Y4 create a dance to African beats and rythyms, as part of their study on Benin. The children had a great time!

Unfortunately, although they won many of their games, they missed out on progressing to the next phase by a single point, but the children really enjoyed themselves and are keen to play more rounders during the remainder of the term.

Y5/6 girls football tournament: 15.4.15

Yesterday two teams from Brixington Primary competed in the local girls football tournament. Not only did both teams play well, each member of the team got better after every game!

One Brixington team was unlucky with their draw, as they played against tough teams in the group stage - including the two eventual finalists. They finished 4th of 5 teams.

The other Brixington team won 3 of their first 4 games, scoring 9 goals. They won their group but lost in a tight semi-final. All were a credit to themselves and the school, playing football in the right spirit and with a big smile on their faces.

Congratulations to them all!

Tag Rugby Club visit to Exeter Chiefs

Lucky boys with Jack Nowell!

Today we had a fabulous day! We arrived at Exeter Chiefs ground and had  a training session with Andy, one of the community coaches. It was fun and the children developed their skills and agility.

After lunch, we watched the Chiefs beat top of the league Northampon! At half time,  the children loved going on the pitch and waving to the crowd. Then they formed a guard of honour for the players as they came out of the tunnel. The children were also presented with a goody bag and many stayed back after the match getting their new t-shirts / programmes signed by players who were very generous with thier time; including England international Jack Nowell!

All the children had a great day! Many thanks to the Exeter Chiefs. We look forward to the next time when we work together to inspire children to enjoy the game of rugby.

Bikeability at Brixington

Over the last 2 weeks, over 40 children in Year 5 have been developing their cycle skills as they complete a bikeability Level 2 course. The course runs over 5 days and prepares children to ride safely on the road. We have been very pleased that so many children are enjoying learning to be safe on their bikes.

An excited  Year 5 group just about to head on to the road!

Last half term almost 80 children in Years 3 and 4 completed the Bikeability Level 1 course. This course helped children improve their bike handling skills within the school environment.

New bike and scooter storage ready for Active travel week

Brixington now has some cycle and scooter storage facilities! The bike racks, funded by SUSTRANS, will store over 20 cycles and are located on the lower site. The scooter pods, located at each entrance, will store 10 scooters each.

New cycle storage!

This week, the children of Brixington have been trying to travel to school in active ways. Each day classes complete a survey, finding out who has walked, cycled, scooted or come by car. We are really pleased that many families are trying to walk, even if travelling by car may be a bit more convenient! Thank you to all who have taken part.

By half time, we were 4-2 up. A real turn around in performance. In the second half, we remained tough to breakdown, conceding one goal after a string of saves by our goal keeper and notched up another 2 goals in our favor. 6-2 was the final score to Brixington. A fantastic team performance.
